Are you intimidated by the idea of portrait painting? Don't be! In this class we will distill the human face to its most essential, add color, texture, and stroke work. This class is for those willing to approach the art-making process with an open mind! Students will go home with one 16x20 painting. All materials will be included.
This purchase is non-refundable. Registrants who cannot attend are welcome to give or sell their slot to someone else, or, a 50% value store credit may be offered to those canceling more than 24 hours in advance.
- Wear paint-friendly clothing. Things get messy!
-Aim to arrive 5-10 minutes early. Class will start *on time*. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late will have difficulty catching up and distract from other students.
Is it okay if I'm a beginner?Absolutely. I only offer workshops that can accommodate a large range of experiences and skill sets. You do not need painting experience at all. That said, some of my students are professional artists. We all have something we can learn from each other.
Is it weird if I come alone? Not at all. In fact, I prefer you come in one or two at a time. Larger groups can often shift the focus and pace of the class. You'll have plenty of opportunities to chat and talk throughout the two hours, but I will keep you busy, so if you are not big on small talk, no worries, there's also no pressure to be chatty. You are here to make art! Please don't drag in your mom or your co-worker just because you don't want to try it out by yourself - they'll bring down the vibe. And you're a big girl. You can come solo. I promise!
What about kids? These classes take place in a working art studio. There are many items in here that are sharp, wet, and/or poisonous. For their safety, and my insurance guy’s sanity, I kindly request children stay out of the studio area unless specifically invited. Children are always welcome in the front gallery area, and there will be occasional children’s art workshops in the future. In the meantime, I'm happy to recommend any of the many places in Evanston already offering art courses for children. Thank you for understanding!
